Ford is shifting its electric vehicle strategy toward more affordable, efficient EVs, and one of the centerpiece moves is a brand-new Universal EV Platform that will underpin a small electric pickup truck targeted for around $30,000 and expected to hit the market in 2027. This new architecture focuses on reducing cost, complexity, and weight by adopting innovations such as a shorter, lighter wiring harness and advanced electrical design. CEO Jim Farley says this platform strategy is part of a major company pivot to produce EVs that are more appealing to mainstream buyers and competitive with Tesla and other global EV makers. This upcoming pickup will be Ford’s first built from the ground up on this modern EV base and represents a key part of its effort to make electric trucks more accessible.
